Best way to travel from airport to hotel?

I have heard it mentioned that it may be more economical and safe to take the subway from Laguardia to our hotel on 49th Street between 7th and 8th instead of a taxi?

Our flight arrives at 5:45pm on a Saturday.

Any suggestions from the locals?

Also, do taxis only accept cash, or do they accept credit cards as well?

Thank you!!Best way to travel from airport to hotel?
I would first check with the hotel to see if they do shuttle service from the airport to the hotel. You could take the subway but this can be frustrating if you have a lot of luggage. I would dish out the cash for a taxi. Do cash because it is safest - or you can prepay for a taxi using a card if you use the taxi service in the airport ( usually a little booth next to the car rentals etc.) but make sure you have some cash to tip the taxi driver.Best way to travel from airport to hotel?
Cabs use a flat fare from JFK, NOT from LaGuardia. There will be traffic at the time you're contemplating, but it's still a relatively short trip from LGA into Midtown. Getting across to the West Side might take a while.

It is not difficult to take the bus to the subway from LGA. There are several options for doing this, including the Q33-E route discussed below. If you take the bus--%26gt;subway you will need a MetroCard or else pay $2 change on the bus and get a transfer.

Safety on the subway is not a problem unless you're truly and obviously incapable of hanging on to your luggage and your wallet.
check with the hoterl they may have courtesy transport.

most legitimate cabs take credit cards,

if you plan well in advance you will have no trouble with public transport.

if your flight is delayed - you may not want to be out there with luggage on a saturday night
You cant take the Subway from LGA, theres no stop there. Your going to have to take a bus(33) from LGA to the Jackson Heights subway station if your going to do it that way.

I believe that there is a flat rate from LGA to Midtown that all taxis honor. I only fly into Newark, but if I remember correctly from hearing my friend mention it, its $45 or something like that. But theres a strong possibilty that your going to be sitting in traffic, even on a Saturday.
I'm not a local but as first time visitors , my family and I were too intimidated to take the subway and hassle with our luggage. We considered a taxi but were told that sometimes there is quite a wait to get one so we reserved a Limo, which is only about $15 more than a taxi. The driver met us at baggage took us right to the hotel with no fuss. Next time we may be brave enough to try the subway. We paid with credit card, but that was in advance. On second thought I'd do the Limo again it was so easy.
The subway doesn't run directly to Laguardia. If you wanted to take the subway, you'd have to take a bus to the subway stop and transfer.

If it's just you, I'd recommend taking the NY Airport Service bus into the city. It's $12 each way, and in your case it would drop you off at Port Authority bus station, which is on 42nd and 8th (about 7 blocks from where you're staying).

But the quickest and easiest way would be to just take a cab. When you leave the terminal, there is a taxi stand outside and cabs are usually lined up there. It'll be about $30 for the fare, plus tip/toll.

Some taxi's will accept credit cards, but it would be much more convenient to have cash.
