I'm going to Chicago next week and my flight is scheduled to land at around 1AM during the week. I already checked the shuttles and the last shuttle runs at 10:30PM.
Can someone give me a detailed guide on how to get to Hotel Orrington (1710 Orrington Ave, Evanston, IL 60201) from Midway airport using public transportation?
I don't want to have to spend $60+ on cab fare when I could just take the bus or the train.
Thank you!Chicago Midway Airport to Hotel Orrington using public transportation?
Best way....
Take the Orange Line on the CTA, which is just at the airport.
Then, when you get to downtown Chicago, change to the Purple Line at the Adams stop, and go on the northbound side of Adams to get the northbound Purple Line.
This CTA train line goes express after local stops from Adams to Belmont, not stopping from Addison to Morse, resuming normal stops at Howard. Once at Howard, the train continues going north to Evanston for 7 more stops. The 4th stop is Davis, so you get off at the Davis stop....in the heart of downtown Evanston.
From there, go down north to the nearest west-east street headed towards the lake, and then go east on that street for 400 feet...the landmark will be the Evanston Public Library....the big red brick building in the heart of downtown.
Make a left on the street across from that library, and the Orrington Hotel will be on your left (the west side).Chicago Midway Airport to Hotel Orrington using public transportation?
Unfortunately the ';el'; ...rapid transit train...does not operate at that time. You will have at least 3 bus rides and will arrive at the Hotel Orrington between 3:41 and 4:11 depending on the route taken...there are 3. Go to the following site and enter Midway CTA as your START and enter Orrington Hotel %26amp; Evanston in the END...don't forget to insert the time of departure....click... 3 routes will appear.
Another option is Airport Express. It's a van that goes to hotels. They say you can get to the Orrington in about an hr for $33.00. This may be the best way...cheaper than a cab and but won't have to lug bags into buses and walk around with them. Go to the following site and enter info:

The Midway CTA elevated train (Orange Line) does not run at that hour BUT the #62 Archer bus runs all night long and follows Archer Ave to downtown just like the Orange Line.
You can take the #62 Archer Ave bus as far north as Dearborn %26amp; Kinzie which is basically in front of the House of Blues and only half the distance to Evanston.
From there I have a few suggestions.
* You can take a cab from downtown to your hotel...which will cost you $60. You may do well to just call a few cab or limo (sedan/town car) companies in the Midway area and see if you can get a cheap flat rate to your hotel. At that hour of the night, somebody may give you a good deal.
* There are a few 24/7 diners along the way to downtown on Archer. You can kill an hour or two in the diner, get something to eat and hop back on the bus. The Purple Line starts running again (from Howard in Evanston) at 4:30am during the week (5am on Saturday and 6am on Sundays)...so you're not spending more than $10 to get to the hotel from Midway but you're spending an awful lot of time. We're talking the 62 to a diner, the 62 again to the red line, the red line to howard where you transfer to the purple line and then the purple line to the Davis stop which is right by your hotel: http://maps.google.com/maps?daddr=1710+O鈥?/a>
If I were in your shoes I would contact the hotel and see if they work with any cabs or car services (all limo companies usually have a town car/sedan which is cheaper) or call a few near Midway and ask for FLAT RATES. Make sure to get names and #'s. I would still guess $60 because that's the hourly rate for most limos in the city.
